Inquiry on a new public transport act The inquiry on a new public transport act is an official government inquiry commissioned by the Ministry of Energy, Enterprise and Communications. The inquiry is to present proposals for clear, integrated legislation consistent with Community law and reflecting relevant changes in society. On 5 July 2008, the Government approved the terms of reference for a review of current public transport legislation. The inquiry will be chaired by Ulf Lundin. Ann-Cathrine Nilsson and Charlotte Biörklund Uggla have been appointed Secretaries to the Inquiry. To assist him, Ulf can also call on the help of 14 expert advisers from government agencies, organisations and political parties. The main purpose of the inquiry is to make public transport more attractive to a wider segment of travellers. The inquiry’s primary task will be to frame a coherent law that will facilitate the development of a dynamic, flexible public transport system. Important points of departure for the undertaking are passenger needs and the role of transport operators. Ulf is to present the first part of his report, on the regulation and organisation of public transport, by 30 April 2009. The second part, which will be concerned with strengthening passenger rights, is to be submitted by 30 September 2009.
