Environmental
Advisory Council
The Environmental Advisory
Council has been the Government’s advisory body on environmental matters
since 1968. The composition and tasks of the Council have varied over time.
One important task has been to give the Government advice on topical
questions or future issues related to the environment.
The Government remodelled
the Environmental Advisory Council so that in 2007 it consisted of a
Scientific Council on Climate Issues and the Climate Committee. For more

The Delegation for Sustainable Cities
- a national arena for sustainable urban development
The Government has remodeled
the Environmental Advisory Council so that it includes, as of 2008, the
Delegation for Sustainable Cities – a national arena for sustainable urban
development. The delegation is appointed by the Government from 2008-2011.
The delegation works for a sustainable development of cities, population
centers and housing areas. It stimulates the work for long-term well
functioning and attractive city environments where high quality of life goes
hand in hand with a better environment, economic growth, social cohesion and
a reduced climate impact.
The Delegation for sustainable
cities:
 | the Government intends to
task the Delegation with managing the planned central government grant
to measures for promoting the development of sustainable cities
announced in the 2008 Budget Bill, |
 | promotes integrated
planning and coordination between different sectors and competences, |
 | promotes joint efforts in
city development projects by municipalities, market stakeholders and
other partners as well as public participation in the planning process,
|
 | assists export of
environmental technology and promotes international cooperation on the
development of sustainable cities, |
 | contributes to the
development and dissemination of knowledge, and |
 | gathers and disseminates
information about positive Swedish and international examples.
